“ Indian Medical Association is the only representative, national voluntary organisation of Doctors of Modern Scientific System of Medicine, which looks after the interest of doctors as well as the well being of the community at large.
The founding fathers wayback in 1928, while struggling for liberation of the Motherland from British rule simultaneously felt the need of a national organisation of the medical profession. Before that, some members of the profession – a selected few – were members of the British Medical Association, which had opened branches in India to cater to the local needs. These stalwarts, ultimately succeeded in formation of Indian Medical Association and reached an agreement with the British Medical Association that they will have no branch in India, and got mutually affiliated, which relationship continues till today. Indian Medical Association in the year 1946 helped in organisation of the World body, namely, World Medical Association, and thus became its founder member. As an organisation it has been, and continues to play an important role.”
Welcome to all my dear members!!
At the outset I am grateful to you all for giving me an excellent opportunity to represent you as president of IMA Pune. I assure you to brighten the already elevated image of IMA Pune with sincerity, affinity and devotion.
My first duty well be to attract and invite our friends who are not our life members. Thereby strengthen IMA Pune. Today we are a family of 4,200. I propose to raise the strength to 5,000 this year, unity is strength in democracy.
As you know we are not even 50% of registered doctors of MCI list. So we are facing stringent restrictions from state and central government denying our due representation at different government bodies.
Consumer protection law is not fruitful to us and consumer also. There are many pending cases at court for more than fifteen years and I feel it is for the want of medical tribunal at different levels. IMA is protesting for that.
Clinical establishment act will enable us to allow our clinical practice at ease. Now at least state government has been considerate to allow MMC and IMA to draft C.E.A. doctor friendly.
